Snow visits the San Gabriel Mountains typically once per year. The snow level rarely may drop to 4000′. In a mad rush, outdoor lovers clamor to the trails to experience the once a year feeling of living in the mountains. 2011 has been quite different, and the last major storm dropped snow to 2500′. From Altadena, that means we were about 1000′ below the snow level. Here are a few photos from my friends Brooke Warner and Alex Boone who took the Lower Sam Merrill trail to Echo Mountain and dropped in to Sunset for some breathtaking views of a rare snow day in Los Angeles. Enjoy!
