More Artists Added To Women of Dirt Silent Auction
Awesome Land: Women of Dirt screens for the first time in Los Angeles Saturday, 3 April 2010 at Cinespace in Hollywood.
According to producer Mark Brent, this film is not about downhill mountain biking, it is about people and how we relate to the planet, the “awesome land” we live in. Brent’s purpose was to create a film that not only transcended the disciplines of cycling, yet every barrier we as the human race hold around us. Brent saw that women on bicycles are a “thing of beauty”, and he found compelling stories to tell the world. The film Women of Dirt transcends every boundary and brings people together, no matter their cycling discipline (road, mountain, commuter, etc.), socio-economic tier or nationality. In fact, “one of the most unusual yet most popular event was held in Israel,” according to Brent.
Original works by Internationally renowned artist Philippe Guillerm and local Los Angeles area artists Keira Dooley and Jeff Herring will be sold via Silent Auction. The auction will raise money for non-profit organizations that provide today’s youth with opportunities in cycling. Beneficiaries include Pro cyclist and National Champion Rahsaan Bahati’s newly formed Bahati Foundation, the Southern California Interscholastic Cycling League (also known as the SoCal High School Mountain Bike League, socaldirt.org), the Mark J. Reynolds Memorial Fund (providing kids with their first bike) and Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (advocacy group for all forms of cycling in Los Angeles County).
MTBCHICK.com is honoring the 5 Most Influential Women in Southern California Cycling and showcasing women in cycling throughout the evening. VIPs include LOTS (Ladies Only Track Cycling) founder Julia Patten Cross, Pua Sawicki (2004, 2005 USA Cycling Series Champion, Marathon and 2005, 2007 USA Cycling 24 hour solo Champion), designer and SheBeest founder Claudia Ried, Nancy Harris (The Path Bike Shop racer and “Den Mother”, downhilling Maven), Road Bike Action contributor and cycling coach out of Bicycle John’s and womencyclist.com founder RaeLynn Milley, Anne Hjelle, Jacke Van Woerkom of Trail Angels, and women’s cycling advocate Dorothy Wong, among others. These women’s stories will be told throughout the evening- you will not want to miss. Not only do we have World Class athletes, and strong entrepreneurs, women helping women, but women in incredible stories of overcoming adversity and the strength of spirit. If you have a woman to nominate, please send to womenofdirt@gmail.com. Additional cycling celebrities will be in attendance and will be announced prior to the event.
Raffle prizes are provided by Cannondale, THULE, Rapha, RoadID, Idylwild Spring Challenge, Action Wipes and more. 100% of the proceeds of the raffle ticket sales go to the beneficiary non-profit organizations.
