A Race for Women :: Idyllwild Spring Challenge
Ladies, I spent the better part of an hour on the phone with Katie from the Idyllwild Spring Challenge, May 1-2, 2010. I had never met Katie before. I can say I am happy to have met her now. Katie is somewhat of an icon in women’s cycling in Southern California who was active in the San Gabriel Valley (Pasadena area) before I moved to the area. From racing to working in the “industry”, Katie has made her mark, and according to Dorothy Wong, is “the best race promoter”. And if Dorothy is saying that, you know it is true. How is it then, that I have never made it to the Idyllwild Spring Challenge? Have you? If not, this is your year, guaranteed!
There are so many issues facing women’s racing, not the least of which being the low turnout.
“You won your race?”
“Yeah…”
“How big was the field?”
“Me.”
Let’s face it, as women racers, we’ve all been there. I tell my clients, it’s OK. You showed up, you deserve to “win”. No one else showed up, and as such, they lost the race. That is, however of little consolation.
Enter Katie Hedrich.
This year at the Idyllwild Spring Challenge, women have many many options to get out and get dirty. Here is a smattering of what you can expect, and worry not, mtbchick.com will be working with Katie and the Spring Challenge to add more value to your weekend. This is going to be EPIC ladies!
+FREE Novice class for women. This is a great opportunity to race, check out what it is like, and be a part of the action! If you have never raced, or it’s been a long time, come on out! You can race this one a one-day license, so no need to purchase a license!
+Open class. The open class is again a longer race, but for those who do not wish to purchase a license.
+STAGE RACE OPTION. You can race Cross Country, Time Trial and Super D. My favorite kind of race is the stage race, and if you have never tried it, this is a great opportunity!
+AMBC, and the only AMBC in SoCal!
More information will follow. Check out the web site.
